Dear Members of the Oakville Arts Studio, painting Classes:

I would like to take a little bit of space to congratulate all the members of the Oakville Arts Studio, painting class!

This year was a very exciting one. We had our first large exhibit at the Visual Arts Mississauga.

3rd Anniversary Event! fabulous!

Our students from both classes: toddlers

It doesn't matter the age. There is always time and place for exploring our creativity!

and advanced made marvelous job through sketching and acrylic painting. We explored part of the human figure, the body and especially the hand.

Some of you learned more about colour and composition. some learned how to do funny furs for animals.

Here we can see a detail on Alicia"s beach.

I was amazed of the creativity of each and everyone of them. I am also happy to be blessed with kids that enjoy art as much as i do. I remember when I was 12 I had my first painting exhibit and I still remember it as it was yesterday. Some things just mark your life, and for me, art was something I just loved and enjoyed.

Katie's lemur was just fantastic. Look at the eyes! and great job on the fur!

Not to mention that in each class you can find friends, sisters, neighbours or school mates. This, of course, makes the time of the class even more special!

And talking about Special, what could be better than to bring your cute stuffed friend to learn all about art!

And of course what could be better than having your Best Friend sharing the excitement of finishing one marvelous work of art!

Sweet Quinn, not only is a great young artist but also a young friend who is fast learning the beautiful language of Spanish (did i mention that I am from Mexico?) Yes, I love my language and I also love the fact that young kids are willing to learn a second language as mine.

Here we can see more happy faces. Who wouldnt be happy doing everything you are not allowed to do at home? That is part of the secret of the Studio. It creates an enviroment where the kids can be themselves through Art! I love that. I guess i am the one who enjoys it the most by learning more about them than they think.

Below we see Vicky, one of our young artists and most prolific ones. She started a few years ago and she has improved in her skills amazingly! No wonder, her Mom, Jenny, is also a wonderful artists.

Here is a detail of jennys last abstract large scale painting.

I love the way she explored techniques and textures.

By looking at this piece, some students where drawn to copy or to get inspiration from to make their own paintings.

Last day of 2011, our artists enjoyed the class by relaxing and creating non-conventional christmas cards with collage.

This New Year 2012 brings even more challenges to our members.

In this Season, we will be working on sketching, quick sketching, vanishing points and composition through the analysis of XVI Cantury paintings.

We will take advantage of the computer to enhance certain parts of one determined work of art and we will work on different views, techniques, and of course, learn about other tendencies in art through time...

But for now, this is all, but it is certainly not the end. it is just the wonderful beginning of many artists to grow in their sensible expressions.

I wish you all, artists and parents all the best for this New Beginning 2012!

Christmas is coming and...

Ending the Fall and starting the winter Season always makes us start thinking in SNOW! Here is Madison with her winter Inspiration!

Hello Dear Artists!

Christmas is coming. The kids in the Oakville Painting Studio are speeding up their projects in order to finish on time before the long-waited holidays, and yet, the quality of artworks is there!
I would like to apologize for not updating the blog as fast as I would have loved to, but a very tight schedule got in the way.
However, here I am showing more of the fabulous works. The themes are quite eclectic, but you can tell that the emotion and feelings put into them are there.

Katie finished her exercise in a monochromatic composition of pumpkins.

And not only that. Before she had already finished another wonderful photograph she took, once again from the inspiring Muskoka region in Ontario.

Very much for the Fall. Alexa, after a tight soccer season managed to finish her toucan from Costa Rica;

Yes, it is her second painting and she is already accomplishing complicated compositions and a lot of work in colour gradation.

Congratulations for your choice and that you never had a doubt to accomplish this painting!

Alicia decided to bring one picture taken from her grandmas cottage in Muskoka. What a sunset! just beautiful photograph. she did a wonderful job with the Gradation and the sky.

Taylor also decided to share one wonderful photograph. Her landscape was challenging due to the depth of the image and the different textures represented. A happy smile always is a sign of feeling great with their excellent job! Way to go, Taylor! Can you tell they are BF?

Nicholas, I must say, is an expert in sketching, yet now he is learning some acrylic techniques to improve his skills. Not only he managed to finish a composition of a still life with peppers

he also painted this.....

Here he is while painting a wonderful picture taken by his brother. This is his cat, and the expression of the face tells it all! MEOW!

Paula also made a monochromatic exercise. She decided to paint a flower in reds....what a flower! way to go, Pau.

Agnes wanted to do a poppy, so she chose this interesting composition behind a romantic window....I have to congratulate Agnes because in these years in the Studio I can really notice her awesome advance both in colour mixing and technique.Keep up my dear Agnes!

Below you can find one of the first exercises inspired in the impressionism with hand cut coloured paper by Camie and Jamie. Two wonderful girls that are awesome in drawing!!!! Some kids need to check out their wonderful sketching skills!

The inspiration was taken from a landscape in the Fall. Keep up girls! I am sure you two will go really far.

And last but not least we have one pain ting by our wonderful Luca! Shy sometimes, quiet some other times, but has a smile that conquers all our hearts!
I love Marine painting especially because of the challenges the kids have towards the reflection in the water. Like the other we where commenting before, this image is nice to look at because of the movement of the water.

Congratulations again, my Dear Luca!
So as you can see, the delay in the blogging, of course was in part due to all the wonderful works these amazing kids are accomplishing. I really feel so lucky to have such talented kids in the studio that enjoy every second of the time in it.

I am sure when time passes I will feel even more proud to find that most of you will reach the stars!

MONOCHROME

Monochrome describes paintings, drawings, design, or photographs in one color or shades of one color.

In this excercise, Danielle selected her still life objects: in this case 3 plastic pepers and a pear. The idea was to quick sketch the objects and from still life try to interpret the mid tones. I let her select her favourite colour and to just add black or white depending on the hue necessary to project the volumes. I took the pucture and then eliminated the colour with the computer.

A monochromatic object or image has colors in shades of limited colors or hues. Images using only shades of grey (with or without black and/or white) are called gray scale or black-and-white.

Here we have the first painting made by Danielle. She managed to work with my favourite colour: purple + black and white.

She made an excellent job and learned a new word.

However, scientifically speaking, "Monochromatic light" refers to light of a narrow frequency.

For an image, the term monochrome is usually taken to mean the same as black and white or, more likely, grayscale, but may also be used to refer to other combinations containing only tones of a single color, such as green-and-white or green-and-black. In this painting, Maddy made a great job with fine brush strokes on a monochromatic painting with a maple leaf.Way to go, Maddy.Great for the Fall!

Duotone is a halftone reproduction of an image using the superimposition of one contrasting color halftone (traditionally black) over another color halftone. This is most often used to bring out middle tones and highlights of an image. The most common colors used are blue, yellow, browns and reds.

Lauren on the other hand decided to use my favourite colour again: purple! and Catalina....just wanted to be in the picture. Beautiful ladies!

Agnes decided to join Maddy on the theme by interpreting her monochromy theme with her pumpkins. Later on Cami painted an old style acrylic of pumpkins and her little sister, Jamie made a spring tulip in blues.(an red)

Monochromatic painting has been an important component of avant-garde visual art throughout the 20th century and into the 21st century. Painters have created the exploration of one color, the examination of values changing across a surface, the expressivity of texture and nuance, expressing a wide variety of emotions, intentions and meanings in a wide variety of ways and means.

From geometric precision to expressionism, the monochrome has proved to be a durable idiom in Contemporary art.

Nature calls before winter comes

NATURE IN ART

Nature has many forms of interpretation. May be a feeling, a colour, a sensation, a moment, a reflection....
all of the above. Nature can be represented in formal or in an abstract way, like this one Laura made for her Son who is a Champion in swimming. Her need to share her excitement of his achievements in a personal way led her to create this painting with water.
Some other who decided to go for abstract where these examples of flowers.

Others like Katie preferred to base their inspiration in a famous painting by Monet in the impressionist style.

Artwork based on nature can take many forms and serve many purposes. Because "nature" is such an immense topic that encompasses so many things, I can only provide a partial list of the various subtopics that may appear in nature-related artwork.

Gabby for instance, wanted to create an abstract painting of a flower pot exploring the possibilities of golden paint. Great work and interesting combination of materials.

Nature in painting is a theme that is and has been a constant in many periods in time in Art. it is nature that reminds us about our human souls and the sensibility we have towards it. Katie and Agnes are happy to have finished together a painting the same day. It is an exciting day when you actually get to sign your works, show them yo your parents and for some students, give them away as valuable presents for family, friends of school teachers!

Here we see Gabby, Cata and Leonor, the Grandma, feeling so proud to share her paintings at the exhibition.

Nature inspires us in many ways. it can remind us about a special moment, a special place, a quiet moment by the lake in our Grandmas cottage,

a peaceful place where we used to take a nap, a Country Garden, or even a sad moment in our lives.

Taylor had a special motivation to paint these flowers. It was her largest project so far and she inspired on one of her grandmas paintings. I am so proud of you, my Dear Taylor for having strength to do this amazing job.

Laura finished this interpretation of poppies with an excellent example of colour and detail. Nice format Laurita!. Looks really great!

Katie brought to the Studio a picture taken from her cottage in the Kawarthas. The job she did on the water was excellent. She is improving her fine detail skills painting after painting!

Nature was our theme and these where our inspirations. The students (or should I refer to them as real artists?) where able to capture these special moments of our lives into wonderful paintings.

No matter what the inspiration leads you to, Nature is an endless theme and I am sure for many centuries to come, human nature will still look up to nature to find a moment of reflexion upon our own Nature as sensitive creatures.

Alicia has produced several paintings with the theme of landscapes. She has improved so much in her skills with fine brush strokes. Her use of colour is very nice and sensitive.

sketching abstract!

Today we had such an interesting day at the Painting Studio. The theme: abstract. What is abstract?

We started with a simple idea that everyone would be able to connect to. A simple shape that is easily created in our minds from early stages of our learning.

This would be an apple. Simple in shape and an idea that can easily can be transformed.

How can we explain abstract in a simple way to kids? Easy. Let them start by exploring the shape itself and then adding or erasing parts of the drawing. Then, alter the remaining sketch with black and white areas.I love the way the kids concentrate while learning new concepts. Sometimes the words like : monochromatic, proportion, perspective or composition can sometimes inhibit the use of simple language. However, these kids are amazing and dare to try to incorporate all these terms into their common language during the class and outside.

Let them trace lines and use the white paper just to think in the IDEA of an apple. What is it in that the apple that creates the IDEA of an apple? Could be the colour?Could be the shape?Could be the stem?

It is interesting to listen to all the definitions the kids have for the same simple figure-idea.

This children's art class, by Miss Myriam, allows individual development so that each child
can measure success by what he or she has accomplished, at their own pace.

Believe with all of your heart that you will do what you were made to do.

Imagination is the eye of the soul.

To climb steep hills requires a slow pace at first.

Parent’s corner:

Fine motor skills are those skills that allow you to develop the ability to do such things as
write and manipulate small objects.

Try these activities to help your child:

-Play with peg large puzzles, these are the ones that have the little knob sticking out of each
little puzzle piece. This allows them to get more control over their finger movement.

- Also try getting them to do some painting with cotton swabs. This affords some really fine
work and allows them to develop their pincer grip

-Let your child make these actions such as running, jumping and hopping. They will soon
show a sense of balance needs to control some fine motor skills muscles in hands, also to
coordinate hand and eye movement and for the use of tools like pencils and crayons for
drawing.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all these wonderful artists who took the time and courage to interpret all these pets and wild animals in their world or art.

Pigs, bunnies, cheetahs, puppies, all just great. Textures and colours mixed to give us some special moments.

Agnes, I love this pig! and I am glad you want to make another one. It is difficult to get the idea of the texture of the skin. It looks as if it is plain and soft but it really has hair on it, and you were able to transmit this idea.

Alexa loves this wonderful coloured creature. The Toucan is one of the fascinating birds of the rain forest, and just by admiring its beak we can learn so much about colour combination in Nature.

Catalina decided to create this special creature from Costa Rica. One type of Lemur with BIG BIG eyes. Way to go Cata, especially the way you worked the texture of the skin.

Vicky, this puppy is one of my favourite breeds, and the red bandanna just makes the composition cheerful. Awesome!

What can I say about your horse, just magnificent!

Luca, this is an intense image. You were able to capture the look of a threatening animal. Camouflage is not easy. Keep up with your work. You have a long way to go in the arts!

Maddy: these cute bunnies where not easy, and yet you made them alive. That wonderful and sweet smile of yours reflect the joy of accomplishing this painting. Congrats!

Vanessa decided to paint her dog Crystal. Even though it is not finished yet, the work in progress looks great so far!

Paula, this is not a new painting, but I wanted to include you in this section of animals. Your Maggie is a sweet pet and you have her now forever in a timeless image.
Nice contrast on the background.

Lauren, your composition for this series of animals was one of the most complicated. Not only you wanted to show a puppy but also all the composition around it: basket, flowers, country garden, etc...I know at some point you wanted to end soooo badly, but you were able to have patience and take the necessary time to finish it. This tells a lot of good things about you. Patience is a quality that can be learned and increased. You have changed so much in this that I have to give you a special HUG for that. Way to go!

Esteban, this horse has such an amazing energy, not only because the movement, but also because of the bright vigorous reds! Fabulous!

Isn't it wonderful to be able to have an excellent reproduction of your own pet? It is a way to honor a creature that gives us joy and great moments! Thank you Alicia for sharing your beautiful dog.

Dear members of the Oakville Arts Studio, Painting class:

The Magic of the Sketch

Sketching or pencil drawing is a rapidly executed freehand and also that is not intended as a finished work. A sketch may serve a number of purposes:

It might record something that the artist sees, it might record or develop an idea for later use or it might be used as a quick way of graphically demonstrating an image, idea or principal.

Sketching is generally a prescribed part of the studies of art students. Pencils are usually where it all begins. Whether you're a dedicated pencil artist or eager to get stuck into painting, learning to draw and sketch with graphite or coloured pencils is a must to an artist's personal development. The programme is focused in leaving the hand flow more freely while following shapes. Copying from real life is sometimes hard for proportion and detailing, and it is precisely through the sketching that the eyes and hand, together work to produce balanced ideas in paper. Pencil is a wonderful media ready for all to explore.

In this season September-December we have prepared for all ages a fantastic programme to inspire you to a surprisingly neglected, yet cheap and beautiful medium. Your kids will be amazed about the possibilities of their results in such a sort time!

Also opening is the toddler’s arts and craft Studio, offered by

Miss Myriam.

Miss Myriam is an Early Childhood Educator who not only has been immersed in oil painting and other different Arts such as poetry, acting and singing. Runs the Homework Club in North Oakville, as well as Story Teller Studio and the Literacy Groups.

She is a Certified ESL Teacher, IELTS, TKT Certified for Teaching Knowledge Test, CDR Course, First Aid Course and National Safety Course. She holds an award winner Certificate in Poetry and Studied Opera. Part of her experience with kids has been for more than 8 years at the Thomas Jefferson Institute Private School in Mexico .

Most toddlers absolutely love art! It is by this principle that this programme for tiny artists is offered.

Toddler art also plays a really important role in your child's development. A child is only physically ready for writing, and even drawing, after years of having loads of practice using the small muscles in their hands. Colouring, painting and sticking are perfect for strengthening those crucial muscles that your child will depend on for the rest of his life.

For ages 3 and up, ask for class schedules and programming.

The Oakville Arts Studio would like welcome her to the Team and wishes her time with the Oakville Arts Studio to be unforgettable.

Anyone is welcome to visit us during the class to see the location and the Studio.

The address is 1121 Kestell Boulevard, in North Oakville, and they come one hour a week Mondays or Thursdays between 4:00 and 6:45. Materials are all included.

3rd. Year Anniversary Exhibition!!!

Dear Members of the Oakville Painting Studio.

First of all I would like to give a huge applause to all the participant in the 3^rd Year Anniversary exhibit in the Visual Arts Mississauga. It was such a fantastic event where all of you displayed your valuable art works. Themes where so diverse: from still life, to landscapes; from animals to

impressionist or abstracts....all of them where

shinning in the walls of the Gallery.

The themes where so diverse: from still life to landscapes, from animals to flowers, from abstracts to impressionists... all so wonderfully exhibited.

I have been tremendously lucky to find kids with such an amazing potential. They are all not only creative and fun to be with. They are also excell students in their schools and in after school programmes. Some play an instrument like violin or piano, some can sing, dance or do excellent in school!.

I would like to thank also all the parents that have supported their kids, and especially the Moms who dedicated some time to help set up, as custodians and dismantle the exhibit.
It sure paid off because the exhibit was such a success!

It is so important for us to know that we are able to raise kids with such an integral human soul.
Art is important because it shows that we are able to feel, to sense the beauty in a colour, in a shadow,... in a simple leaf floating in the air.
It makes us different from other species and defines us as human beings in all the extension of the WORD!
I am so grateful to have been by their side during this time of their lives. Some will take different paths, but no matter what they do or where they will be, I am sure that the memories they take along with them from their work at the Painting Studio will remain. I will have them all in my heart.

Oh! this Month was particularly busy for many of our members, who not only challenged themselves to work on projects that required high skills, but also accomplished them by finishing them in such a short time!

Way to go guys!!!

In this first part of this blog, I would like to give a great applause to these great kids, who finished the theme of Still Life. like shown above with Madison's artwork.

Especially in this exercises the challenge was to work on different textures, light and depth through glass, wood, baskets, metal, all together with fruits and vegetables.
We also explored the claroscuro :
Chiaroscuro (English pronunciation: /kiˌɑːrəˈskjʊəroʊ/, Italian: [kjarosˈkuːro] "light-dark") in art is characterized by strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. It is also a technical term used by artists and art historians for using contrasts of light to achieve a sense of volume in modelling three-dimensional objects such as the human body. Here we have Alicia, who not only is showing us her painting, but also I want to make a comment about it. She is giving it away to her Grandma, who is going through a family loss. Alicia has shown time after time a great heart.
I like the way you are critical with your work. Always expecting more and more from yourself.

Below you can see Alexa's composition. I must remind you all that each and everyone of the Students got to make their own compositions, then photograph them and then do the sketch in pencil.
All the process was necessary to come to this. All the groups have been finishing their pieces with tremendous skills.
I also have to recognize the OTHER talents from these girls and boys from the Studio.
Alexa, for example, not only is great at painting, she is also great in soccer playing for Rep teams in Oakville, as well as in Ballet.

Keep up my Dear Alexa, multi talented girl.

Below we can see what Catalina had for us this time. I have to give her a great applause, because she was the ONLY one to choose a metallic tray: the silver one!

She did great in her project, and again, I have to recognize her inner values, not only as great artist, but also as another sensible girl who gave away her piece to her school teacher. Keep up the giving spirit Ladies. it is great to have such a fantastic group of talented, caring and dedicated members of this Painting Studio from the Oakville Arts Studio!!!

LIKE MOTHER LIKE DAUGHTER

And now in this part of this blog, I have to recognize 2 great artists, that happen to be Mother and Daughter!!!!

Jenny and Victoria, who truly inspired after returning from their one month trip to their homeland: Argentina, and having seen the wonderful landscapes of the pampa Argentina in the grandpas land, they immediately came to work on it through their art.

This girl is the youngest of the Studio and at her short age of 7 she is now proving to be a great promise in the artistic field. Congratulations my Dear Vicky.

And other themes......more artists!...more art to share!

And last but not least we have Lauren and Laura, who had great initiative to choose these wonderful purple flowers and the great hues of blues!

I have to give them a big hug because Lauren is so fun to be with, kind and gentile, and also because purple is my favourite colour, and what to say about Laura, my wonderful dance teacher. she manages to run always up and down taking her kids to swimming competitions and many other activities she gets involved in, and yet she gives herself time to create these great pieces of Art.

Congratulations to ALL who made this Spring really a flourishing and inspiring Painting Studio!

This time is Taylors turn to show her talents.Not only she was able to reflect the glass in her acrylic still life project, but now she is into a wonderful project: she will be recreating one of her Grandmothers paintings!

Pamela, her Grandma, recently passed away. Taylor will be honoring her by recreating one of her oil paintings. She is looking forward to do this project for all that it means to her and her family. A sensitive young woman who has such an artistic vein. Good luck my dear Taylor and congratulations for your finished artwork.

Dear Lauren. Once again we have you in the spotlight. I felt so bad because it wasn't your best time because you weren't feeling quite good, yet you managed to keep up your strength and interest to finish your lovely still life composition.

I can tell that your capacity to view and recognize detail in a real-live image has helped your progress in the use of colour. Depth and perspective where as important as recognizing the different materials of which the composition was created.

What can I say but to congratulate these two younge artists. I have been more than a year now helping them understand the meaning of detail, and focusing attention to pursue awesome details. It is the case of Luca and Vicky. Not only they are great sports individuals: hockey and soccer for luca, besides the violin, and gymnastics for Vicky.

They have demonstrated over and over their capacity to focus. Especially for their young age, it is amazing the detailing they had to develop in these particular acrylic paintings. The glass reflections is one of the most difficult tasks for any artists, and in Vicky's still life has such a life and great composition, which by the way I have to thank her as well because it was her who put the elements together for the picture.

And here we see Luca, with the flow of the river in this winter scene. Depth, texture, movement of the water. Great colours and a lot of detail. Congratulations Luca. Keep up!

It has been fabulous to see how young kids become great observers. Especially when detail is required, more concentration and time to develop small areas of the project they are in to.

I always enjoy the process of the works to see how they develop. In this case, Katie is exploring a still life again with black background. The challenge here not only was to sketch in black and white to give depth and texture, but then transfer the same image into a canvas in order to do it in acrylics.

I am positive it will turn out beautiful because so far, she has been working hard to get those delicious grapes almost ready to eat.

Keep up Katie and let us know when you finish your painting. You have already so many lovely works that I am guessing the up coming exhibition will be challenging to fit all of these wonderful pieces.

Preparing their Still Life projects

Today was an exciting beginning for new ideas. The girls prepared a composition using almost the same elements in a Still Life, incorporating different textures such as glass, wood, clay, basket or fabric into the image they wanted to create.
The idea was to get inspired in "Dutch Still Life (e.g. Pieter Claesz)" as we see in the image above.

With origins in the Middle Ages and Ancient Greek/Roman art, still life paintings give the artist more leeway in the arrangement of design elements within a composition than do paintings of other types of subjects such as landscape or portraiture. Still life paintings, particularly before 1700, often contained religious and allegorical symbolism relating to the objects depicted. Some modern still life breaks the two-dimensional barrier and employs three-dimensional mixed media, and uses found objects, photography, computer graphics, as well as video and sound.

I took pictures of each and every one of them and then had them sketch it in pencil. Look at the wonderful compositions these young artist created:

Happy New Year 2011!!!!!

I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday Season enjoying every moment with Family and Friends.

I would like to welcome you all back to the 2011 Season of the Studio hoping you all charged your energy and creativity for new projects to come.

This time I am preparing a new program for all of you to follow based in different themes, periods of time and techniques.

The class will have a new challenge for each and all of you to follow that will allow the Group to increase the knowledge through small presentations.

I believe that this new and exciting program will be attractive and fun to follow. Details will be shared in class, and it will prepare our groups for our first Painting Exhibition to be held in the Visual Arts Mississauga Art Centre, May 13, 14 and 15 2011!

This will be a wonderful opportunity not only to display and share with friends and Family some of the wonderful works our members are producing, but also to celebrate our 3rd Anniversary of the Oakville Painting Studio.

Wishing you many happy and creative moments full of health and love for this New Year 2011, I send you all my best regards.

As you saw in the previous images of this blog, not only I like to encourage kids to have a great time enjoying their stay at the Studio, like making huge bubbles, we also like to remind them of special occasions like this: Lauren just celebrated her BirthDay and she got little lights to blow out!

Adults also have great moments to celebrate, like this picture showing Laura finishing her impressionist view of bright coloured poppies. Way to go, my Dear Laurita!And what can we say about Maddison! Hard working sweet girl who just finished her second great painting. I almost gave a bite to these delicious cherries!

New Studio! Great Beginning

Today we had the first class at our new location. 1121 Kestell Boulevard.
Kids came one by one adapting to their spaces.

With music everywhere, kids really enjoyed the first day.

Starting with great enthusiasm, Alexa just finished another gorgeous and colourful painting!

Of course, part of being here is having fun while relaxing from the every day school chores. Katie, Alicia and Taylor with their new aprons. I love this Group!

What can I say but to shout out loud CONGRATULATIONS!!! to All these young artists. It is such a pleasure to have talented kids that enjoy creating.
First of the list comes Lauren. This is her second painting in acrylics. This time a still life composition on dark background. Details and proportion are beautiful. Keep up my dear Lauren!

Next we have Luca, our multi-task/multi talented kid of the class

These pumpkins, had such a challenge in the vanishing point. All where different in light and proportion. It was an excellent excercise to work on perspective and depth.
Great colours.
Next comes one of our ladies of the Thursday class. Paula has been one of the most prolyfic artists and her heart is so big she gives away all her paintings to fiends and teachers!!!! Lovely gesture my dear Paula. Congratulations on this beautiful FALL theme painting.

And last but not least two paintings from Best-Friends Taylor and Alicia,

who finished at the same time their still life. I love having them in class for they are such sweet girls. Keep up ladies.

She is now in the process of working with spatula in an impressionist coloured flower composition.
The use of other techniques some other girls are applying is spounge for texturizing effects. They really enjoy this, especially for the spontaneity of the results.

First of all, I would like to welcome some new faces:

Lauren and Maddi, my dear neighbours, who are finding their Leonardo Da Vinci captured inside their body! They are now in the process of learning the basics of figure in common shapes like pear and apple. Way to go ladies, keep up!

As the new Fall Season starts, the kids from the Oakville Painting Studio are back so energetic and ready to bring some more wonderful ideas into their canvases.

The Oakville Painting Studio participated last Sunday in the 6th For the Love of arts Festival in the Town of Oakville.

It was a full day of exciting shows from dance, music, crafts and arts from almost all the non-for-profit organizations in Town.

I would also like to acknowledge Paula, who not only has demonstrated to be one of the most prolific painting students, but also an excellent dancer. She participated in the folkloric dances from Mexico and colombia with the group Jomab. Hi. Here we are celebrating Paula's new landscape. The colours of the fall just amazed us. Her interest in the impressionism took us to try out this landscape from Algonquin.

For now she will be in another scheme of things. she wants to try out an informal approach into abstract. New textures, different effects with sponge, cardboard and direct paint spread around. Keep in touch and enjoy what we are now doing.

In our studios, I try to mix serious and important composition themes like landscapes, still life, abstractions along with fun projects interesting for kids, like pets, animals and other fiction images like "venom" from the movie Spider Man. The techniques in each and every work has to be accoplished in a optimus way.

One of the things I believe isvery important is to create an ambiance through images and music. Coming from a background of musicians at home, I learned to work with beautiful music.
I like to not only provide a WIDE variety of music, from classical, jazz, new-age, baroque and modern. Kids are exposed to one hour or so of fine music, and they are also welcome to bring their own iPods or CD's as long as it is good for all thr group.
I also like to share videos, movies related to History of famous Artists, as well as the different tendencies and styles in Art.

My widescreen has been an excellent tool to teach and to project the images we are copying or studying!

As for the themes, I have prepared a program that will allow students to understand basic figures and volumes, passing from pencil sketching, proportion, texture, gradation, spacial elements and perspective.

In the Oakville Painting Studio we work on thechniques starting with pencil, watercolour and acrylics.

Unfortunately we are not able to work either with pastels, charcoal or oil due to the place we are working for now.
Not only it is reduced but the conditions for ventilation are not the required to work with stronger materials.
We are in the process of moving to a new facility for the Arts that is being adapted from an old High School, but the project is programmed to be opened in Spring 2012...Soooo, as you see we will have to master in Acrylics!

Keeping the groups small

I believe that keeping the groups in ratio of 1:5 at the most is a great number, where I can dedicate time and focus to the needs of the students.
Especially on the younger ones that need short tasks to develop.

Welcome to this space created to share all of our work, experiences and thoughts from the Oakville Painting Studio.
This creative space was formed at first just to teach my 2 kids some techniques for drawing, composition and colour. After some weeks, some friends got interested in sharing this space. Now, we have grown into an interesting space where kids, teens and adults have the opportunity to make wonderful pieces of ART!
